Gifts from a Good Father

The other morning I walked with a friend of mine who shared about her small home renovation project. She said that in sourcing and pricing some counter top, they were quite discouraged by the high prices of counters of the type they wanted. Then, out one day at a bargain place, they stumbled across the exact counter top at a hugely discounted price. She gaped in disbelief, wanting to thank God for small miracles, but unsure if God would care about the details of a life that included a bathroom renovation.

Well, sister, I got a word for you about that.

God cares.

God cares about the big and the small details of our lives.

God cares that you saw something beautiful and you loved it… and then couldn’t afford to make it work without breaking the budget.

So I assure you, sweet one, that this discount counter top was most certainly a gift for you from our good heavenly Father, who wanted to show you His love, that is so deep, so wide. He wanted to show you that he cares about you and the details that you think are too mundane and vain to share with Him. He wanted to knock your socks off with the way that he cares for you.

And in the same way that you want to bless your boys with gifts that will make their eyes widen in disbelief as they cannot believe their good fortune at that special gift in front of them, so God wants to do that for you.

Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!                     Matt.7:9-11
