Adopted

Standard

Close friends of ours from church went through the lengthy process to adopt a little boy a few years back. This little guy now proudly claims the family name as his own. He belongs there. He is theirs. He knows he belongs there, just as the other birth children of the family belong. There is no distinction because he began his life in a different family.

And like that little boy, we too, are adopted into God’s family. We belong!

Eph.1:4-6 in the Message says, “Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.”

Isn’t that beautiful? And such wonderful news?

Perhaps you are someone who has experienced rejection by your own family. Perhaps your childhood was less than ideal. Perhaps you suffered heart hurts inflicted by adults in your life as a youngster. Yes, you are still a part of that birth family. You still carry that name. But the greater Truth that you can embrace as someone who is a child of God is that God chose you to be adopted into His family. He loved you so much as He created you, that He decided before you were even born, that He wanted you to be a part of His great family.

Praise God for his amazing gift!

  1. What I love about how God has adopted us, is the fact that He knows EVERYTHING about us! He already knows when we’re going to turn our backs on him and not obey him. He knows when we are going to mess up – he loves us NO MATTER WHAT! And so much so that he adopted us even though he know how much we will screw up in the future!

He doesn’t get disappointed in us because he already knows what’s in store for us and our relationship with him. He is amazing! Truly amazing.
